CERVERA: “WE WEREN’T ABLE TO SETTLE”

The Cádiz CF head coach offered his thoughts on the defeat to Getafe

Cádiz CF head coach Álvaro Cervera spoke to the media after Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Getafe CF, commenting: “We’re two very similar sides in the sense that we don’t like the ball being close to our area. At 1-0 down after their opening goal, it becomes a much trickier situation for us if we’re not hurting them in attack, which we weren’t.”

Cervera continued: “We tried to change things in the second half. We didn’t play badly; the players stuck to their task well. But we struggled to get balls into the box and we weren’t able to make the most of the two centre-forwards we had on the pitch in the second half.  At times we made mistakes, too, such as in the build-up to the second goal.”

The boss added: “I’m not happy, because we had to change things in the second half and we still weren’t able to hurt them enough to make the change we made a productive one. They hurt you on the break. Having conceded, we tried to do more in attack and we weren’t able to stretch them. I didn’t dislike our second-half display, but I’m not happy either. We weren’t able to hurt the opposition.”

Asked about Getafe’s robust, streetwise approach to the game, Cervera said: “We haven’t lost tonight because of fouls or time-wasting; we’ve lost because we weren’t able to settle and we weren’t able to stretch them – that’s a concern to me.”
