Sergio's team made a good start to this first Copa del Rey match for Real Unión and Cádiz. Cadiz, through Negredo, were dangerous in the early stages of the game, moving the ball well and reaching Joel Jiménez's goal with danger. A goal that Lucas Pérez managed to beat on the quarter of an hour mark after a good counter-attacking gallop. A minute later, Nacho Sánchez equalised.
With this immediate goal, the Cadistas followed the established plan, looking for Álvaro Negredo's shots with lateral crosses. Even Lautaro, from a corner, could have scored the second goal. The home side's approaches were blocked by David Gil and the Cadista defence, with the Yellows responding with a shot from Lucas. At half-time, both teams were level at one.
After the restart, the Cadista team continued to set the pace of the game. Before reaching the hour mark, a good personal move by Théo Bongonda on the byline ended with Álvaro Negredo's close-range finish, who headed past Joel Jiménez to put Sergio González's side back in front on the scoreboard.
Just when the game was in the yellow half, a set piece allowed Real Unión de Irún to equalise. Iván Pérez rose up in the area to head the ball past David Gil's goal. The Cadista side came close in response, but in the end it was Real Union who went through with a long-range strike from Nacho Sanchez.
