0-0 | ENTERTAINING GOALLESS DRAW IN MARBELLA

Both sides enjoyed good chances to score - particularly Cádiz B, who created the clearest opportunities

Cádiz CF B picked up a good point against Marbella FC at the Estadio Lorenzo Cuevas on Sunday, in a match that somehow ended goalless. Both sides had clear-cut chances to get on the scoresheet, particularly the visitors.

Los Cadistas made a strong, energetic start to the match, at times pinning Marbella back in their own area, but this forward momentum then led to the hosts enjoying a huge opportunity on the counter-attack.

Shortly afterwards, José Manuel Aira’s side created another chance, Edu Ramos firing in a right-footed shot from the edge of the area that drew a smart stop from Juan Flere.

However, Cádiz B looked in good shape and made sure they gave as good as they got, displaying plenty of personality as the game developed into a ding-dong contest that saw Juan Manuel Pavón’s men carve out clear chances to take the lead before half time.

Javi Martín sent a right-footed effort over, before Mamady Diarra controlled inside the box soon after that and shot powerfully at goal, only for keeper Alfonso Herrero to show good positioning and get down low to gather.

Marbella responded with a firm header from Javier Añón that grazed Flere’s post on its way just wide.

The final opening of the first 45 fell to Cádiz B, who put together a fine attacking move that began in the centre of midfield before the ball was played wide to Manuel Nieto. He sent in a fantastic right-wing cross that Iván Chapela got his head to in spectacular fashion, but a once more well-positioned Herrero diverted the ball behind for a corner.

In the second half, the game picked up where it left off. Neither side had the upper hand, although it was the away team who had the better of the chances. That said, Marbella also regularly carved out dangerous attacks.

Cádiz B enjoyed another major opportunity to open the scoring when Saturday Erimuya sent a header just past Herrero’s left-hand post, and soon after they created another. Saturday was again involved, the defender letting fly with a powerful shot from the edge of the area that required the home keeper to look alive to parry.

Marbella replied with an effort from Juanmi Callejón, who advanced towards goal at pace and hit a right-footed strike over the bar.

Cádiz B continued to look for an opener, but it was clear that today was not their day in front of goal, as the recently-introduced Juan Manuel Boselli ran forward on the right and fired in an angled drive that flew off target.

An exciting, end-to-end finish saw both sides seek out a last-ditch winner, but the match ended scoreless.
