Sergio: "Villarreal will demand a lot from us"

The coach spoke to the media at the Ciudad Deportiva ahead of the seventh LaLiga Santander matchday.

Coach Sergio González took the floor in the press room of the Ciudad Deportiva before the match against Villarreal CF: "First victory, first three points, it helps you mentally. It was clear that the important thing was to get the victory. We accept that we have to improve a lot from what happened in Valladolid. It was important to take the pressure off. We have trained with joy, with desire, it has freed us. Soccer has given us an important opportunity and we are going to take it."

Working on improvement. "Day by day is the food of soccer. Being happy makes you work better. If you live happily and with desire you can talk about soccer. The food of the footballer is the day to day, the happiness that comes from victory, eating well, resting well, training well, and all this has to be reflected in the match. In this beginning of the season we have to improve in the defensive phase, in Valladolid we managed to keep a clean sheet, we won with Negredo's goal and we have to keep improving things from the defensive strength."

Saturday's opponent. "Villarreal is an author's team. They have a great coach. One of the best in the world. He manages all the registers, he is a scholar. His teams are very recognizable. His team shows it with a very clear structure. A team with a lot of harmony. They also handle many registers in attack. They know that they are going to demand a high level from us and we go with desire and confidence. We're going with the idea that they won't feel comfortable, that they won't have time to think with the ball. We understand how they play, we are going to compete well and fight for the victory."

Ball handling. "It's a team that feels very comfortable with the ball, but it's also a team that has to allow us to be daring with the ball. Hopefully we have the ability to make them spend a lot of time in the defensive phase and we can hurt them. A priori they will have more time on the ball, that's obvious, but we must have the ability to handle the ball and hurt them."

Counting on the youth of the youth team. "The boys from the reserve team should know, and if they don't, I'll tell them, that we have a direct relationship with Cifuentes, that we are looking out for them. That we count on them. The kids give a lot of activation, energy and emotional plus to the training sessions."
