Santiago Galván: "Cádiz CF is Zahara's main team"

The Cádiz Club de Fútbol will dedicate the posters of the matches in which it plays at home in the Cádiz fiefdom to popular festivities in different towns and cities in the province of Cádiz in the second round of the league competition.

Under the motto 'Cádiz CF Somos Provincia', Corpus Christi in Zahara will be honored on the bill for the match between Cádiz CF and Girona FC, corresponding to matchday 21 of LaLiga, this Friday.

For this reason, the councilor of Zahara, Santiago Galván, spoke to the club's media in an interview in which he explained the operation and singularities of the most important festival in the municipality and recognized the importance of Cádiz CF in the town.

In relation to his own recognition on the poster, Galván spoke of "proud" because "Cádiz CF is the team of the entire province, and also in Zahara there are many followers and members of Cádiz CF, it will be great news and of great joy, pride and satisfaction, of course. It is a First Division match and we hope it helps. It is dedicated to the Corpus de Zahara, of national interest and which is a party that not even the pandemic could with it, since even in the years of The pandemic has been taking place. It has been celebrated since the year 1500 and let's see if the resistance and strength of our party helps to score the three points against Girona on Friday".

As for the festival itself, the zahareño alderman explained that "it goes beyond the religious, it evokes childhood memories generation after generation. In fact, there is documentary evidence that Corpus Christi has been celebrated since the year 1500, It is the oldest in Spain and of national tourist interest. It goes beyond religion, it is a way of life. For the people of Zahar, it is the maximum expression of our town, it is there where we invite visitors, where we meet with our friends and family. It is a meeting point, a unique weekend. The town is an authentic orchard and becomes a jungle, both on the ground and on the walls of the main streets, through which the procession passes, which is the main act. We receive thousands of visitors and it is a pride for us to be able to show the beauty of our town in that unique environment, in that forest that the town becomes. Different things happen throughout the weekend".

In this sense, he explained that the Corpus de Zahara "is always in the month of June and is the maximum expression of Zahareña and what we feel most proud of because of tradition, for more than 500 years of antiquity, generation after generation; for the voluntary help that is made, because more than 100 volunteers from the town, with 1,400 inhabitants, participate and collaborate to be able to carry out the party in the decoration and disassembly of it.Generation after generation we have lived and felt this party and it is the one that directly makes our skin crawl".

"Zahara is a town of 1,400 inhabitants, we have five hotel establishments, more than 350 beds in rental houses, we have a tourist asset such as an inland beach that receives more than 70,000 visitors in summer, we are in a natural park, there are countless trails, sports activities, sports-adventure, a reservoir that offers a multitude of family options and for all ages, gastronomy, culture, history... Zahara was the starting point for the conquest of the Kingdom of Granada by the Catholic Monarchs with the definitive conquest of Ponce de León in 1483, we also teach that history in our Medieval Villa, recently turned into a museum in February with some spectacular data in terms of visits.
