Paco López: “The match was evenly matched”

The Valencian coach spoke to the media after the match against Sporting

At the end of the match corresponding to the 13th LALIGA Hypermotion matchday at El Molinón - Enrique Castro 'Quini', Paco López stopped by the press room to offer his analysis of the match and everything that happened in the clash.

Evaluation of the match. “The match was evenly matched. Before the 0-0, we had a chance from Brian that Chris didn't create and it was to push it. Neither of us had clear chances, but the 1-0 was a misfortune with an own goal. From then on we had some difficult minutes, as it usually happens to us. In the second half, the team recovered, we dominated and had control. The 2-0 came from a disputed penalty, even though it was hit in the hand”.

Expulsion. “It's complicated to talk about the referee. I thought the referee was a very good referee, the fourth official seemed to me to understand the professionals very well. But we had an assistant referee with very little empathy. And it's a pity, because I thought the referee and the fourth official were very good. Sometimes we have to put up with certain comments, but that's the way it is. As long as there is no insult or disrespect, absolutely nothing should happen”.

Idea of the match. “In the first half we tried to press high to avoid their shots comfortably to the front three. In general, I think we defended quite well. In the second half, Sporting, with the score in their favor, took a step back and we managed the ball well until the last few meters. What has happened to us in many matches has happened to us: when the score is against us, we have to manage our attacking plays better. Today, unfortunately, we scored the goal with our own head”.

Situation in Valencia. “Those of us who are Valencian and have people affected are very upset. I have people I know who are very upset and, if it had been up to me, I wouldn't have played. I don't know if you can imagine what the people there are going through. My whole family is helping nearby villages. This is beyond description.

Displacement of the fans. “The only thing I can say to the fans is to thank them for coming today. We would like the situation to be different and give them more joy. We will continue to work as professionals to give them the happiness they deserve”.
