5-1 | Tough defeat at the Metropolitano
Griezmann, Morata, Carrasco and Molina deny the Yellows a point on their visit to Madrid
Cádiz CF visited the Cívitas Metropolitano, home of Atlético de Madrid, the most in-form team in the final stretch of LaLiga Santander, something they soon proved. Antoine Griezmann, in the first minute of play, made it 1-0 on a pass from Yannick Carrasco inside the box with a left-footed shot away from Conan Ledesma's position.
With the result in their favor, the colchonero team pressed the accelerator even more in the first quarter of an hour of play, but Sergio González's men defended firmly, and even had a chance in the boots of Álvaro Negredo, whose shot on the edge of the area after a steal in the opponent's half went wide. Shortly after, Momo sent Théo Bongonda's cross into the back of the net, but the Senegalese defender's goal was disallowed for infringement.
Shortly before the first half-hour mark, after a quick triangulation by the home side, Antoine Griezmann scored the double with a shot inside the box, but again Ledesma could do nothing.
After the break, Simeone's team increased the difference on the scoreboard with goals from Álvaro Morata, three minutes after the restart, and Yannick Carrasco, who converted a rigorous penalty for hands by Rubén Alcaraz inside the area.
With 20 minutes left on the clock, Cádiz CF reduced the deficit thanks to an extraordinary goal scored by Choco Lozano, who, with a shot from the corner of the box, put the ball in the corner of the goal defended by Grbic. Then, however, Atlético de Madrid responded with another goal, in this case signed by Molina, who beat Ledesma with a shot in the small area.
