As is common in Atlético de Madrid's starts, Griezmann opened the game by bringing his quality to bear to send a ball against the post after three minutes, and shortly afterwards he found himself in front of Conan after dribbling past several Cadista players. It was Sergio González's men who, after twelve minutes, took the lead with a goal from Lucas Pires from Chris Ramos' low cross.

After conceding the goal, the Cadistas tried to push forward to fight for the equaliser, but the home defence was very solid and the three points stayed at the Metropolitano.
