2-0 | Defensive mistakes weigh down Cádiz at Villarreal
Two goals from Nicolas Jackson meant an insurmountable slab at La Cerámica
Cádiz CF left their visit to the Estadio de La Cerámica de Villarreal empty, where a brace from Nicolas Jackson in the first half was enough for Quique Setién's team to beat Sergio González's team, who, however, enjoyed multiple occasions to have scored a goal.
Cádiz began with seriousness and intensity, starting the game very well planted in the La Cerámica Stadium and turning the game towards Pepe Reina's goal. The local goalkeeper saved Quique Setién's men in the first minute of the game, when Rubén Sobrino stole the ball up front and ended up serving for Théo Bongonda who, with his right foot, defined Reina's long stick, who guessed the intentions of the yellow attacker .
10 minutes into the game, Rubén Sobrino himself once again starred in a new dangerous action with a shot from the edge of the area hit the right post of Reina's goal, who saved the shot again, not without difficulties.
Shortly before the halfway point in the first half was reached, a clearance from Villarreal turned into a long pass for Nicolas Jackson, who took advantage of a defensive mismatch to, after dribbling past Conan Ledesma, scored the first goal of the game.
Cádiz was able to equalize shortly before the break when Ivan Alejo, after dodging the entry of a defender on the edge of the area, launched a placed shot with his left foot that forced Pepe Reina to send the ball to a corner.
Right after, Quique Setién's men managed to score the second goal thanks to a shot placed by Manu Trigueros off a pass from Gerard Moreno but the referee, at the request of the VAR, annulled the goal due to a previous foul by Yeremy Pino on Iza Carcelén. In any case, in added time, and after a new defensive error, Nicolas Jackson did manage to make it 2-0 that would go up on the scoreboard after dribbling past Conan Ledesma and scoring on an empty goal.
In the second half, Cádiz started pressing against the need to close the gap as soon as possible and, as a result, Sergi Guardiola had, shortly before game time, the first clear opportunity for Sergio González's team. His shot, however, was parried by Pepe Reina with a corner kick.
The Cadista players would have a new goal chance with a quarter of an hour to go until the end of the game. After making an exceptional play, Álvaro Negredo filtered a wonderful pass for the arrival of Gonzalo Escalante who, in a one-on-one, couldn't get past the local goalkeeper. In the last minutes it would be Rubén Sobrino who, after a shot by José Mari repelled by Pepe Reina, sent the ball over the goal of the Castellón team.
