The match kicked off with a lot of intensity from both teams, as in the first four minutes they had already handed out a yellow card to each team. In the tenth minute, a card changed the course of the game. Darwin Machis was shown the red card and left the yellow team with ten players on the pitch, which added a little more difficulty to the game for Sergio González's team.
Míchel's men, for their part, took advantage of their numerical superiority on the pitch to bring out their quality and philosophy of moving the ball around a Cadista area where the Yellows were well positioned. Despite several attempts from Girona, and the occasional counter-attack from the home side, both teams went in at half-time with a goalless scoreline.
After the restart, the Girona side continued with their philosophy with the ball in possession. It was in the 59th minute when Aleix García, from outside the box, shot from the edge of the area to put Míchel's side ahead. Far from giving up, the Cadistas went for the equaliser despite being a man down.
In the final minutes, the Cadistas threw their hearts into the game to put the goal defended by Gazzaniga in check, and even had some dangerous chances that did not materialise. In the end, the score at the end of the match was 0-1 for Girona FC.
