‘Cholo’ Simeone, the coach of Atlético Madrid, analysed his team’s victory over Cádiz CF, starting by saying: “it was a tough, difficult game. It looked like we had it under control but we knew Cádiz are a solid team and after cutting the deficit they made life difficult for us with their crosses from out wide.”
The Atlético coach was clear that the game had been “tight right to the end.”
Atlético top of the table in a great position: “We’re looking to improve and maintain the positive rhythm. The team coped well with the players out and we raised our level of competition.” Simeone added: “For that we need to raise the competitiveness [in the squad] and train hard.”
Equally, he was happy to say: “I understand that defending well gives a team the possibility of having a chance in a game, in order to then use all talent that team has. You don’t have one situation without the other.” Simeone added: “I’m respectful of different opinions and the debate is normal. We take ourselves out of those kind of questions and we’re only thinking of our next match, against Celta.”
