Cádiz coach Sergio González spoke to the media ahead of the match against Sporting Gijón in the Copa del Rey. "It's clear that the squad has an incentive with the new coach, it's something common. The footballer always gives a plus when a new coach arrives. Hopefully we can get a win to reinforce the idea we want to put into practice. I really like the Copa del Rey, I've always liked it, both as a footballer and as a coach. We'll sit down and decide which eleven we end up putting out", he explained.
Transfer market. "I perceive a huge competitiveness in training. The coaches always want to strengthen the team when there is a transfer window. We're never satisfied, no matter what situation you're in. We want to try to shore up and strengthen the squad. It's a month in which we're open to strengthening the team, we're open to bringing in new players. All the windows are important, we have to push the club to always improve, no matter what situation the team is in."
Improve. "When we arrived here we already had the team's data, it's something that is managed. When there is a change of coach, there are changes in everything. The feeling I get is that everyone wants to make a difference. Hopefully we can make the group strong and we'll try to give them the tools so that the team can win the games to come."
Style. "My style right now is secondary. We want to be a competitive team, so that our opponents have to do things very well to beat us. We will try to have options to win games, to be a balanced team. Starting from defensive solidity, we have to generate the goal scoring chances necessary to win the team. Above all, we want to be a competitive team. We are very permeable, we can handle different versions. What we like most is the 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1, but we have used other systems. We are working on what system would strengthen the team. Depending on the games we will work on the system."
Possession. "You need the ball to be able to generate chances and score goals, which is what you need to win. We understand that we have to be strong without the ball in order to be strong on the ball. We have to look for balance. We want to be a team that can play with the ball, combine, have team alternatives, but above all we need to be compact and solid."
Copa pponents. "Sporting are a team that play the ball well. They start the game well from the back. They combine well. They have a forward who gives a leap in quality to the whole team. They handle the ball well and try to beat you by being better than you. We will look to be competitive. We'll look to press them from the start. We'll try to show them some of what we want to do at Cádiz, we've only been here a short time but we want them to start to show some of what we want to do."
Álex Fernández and the search for his ideal position. "Álex has the ability and conditions to occupy different positions. During his time at Espanyol he played more in midfield. Our idea is for him to be more of an eight that gives us criteria, organisation, that gives us football. He has a lot of versatility. The main position we want him to play is as an eight in a 4-4-2. The good thing about having him is that he can occupy several positions. I had a conversation with him the other day, this Álex is different. He is a capital player and captain of Cádiz. He is a much more complete player than the one I had."
Cádiz challenge. "We don't come here to pass the time. We have seen a team with the potential to make the most of it. We are aware of where we come from. We come with the illusion and the certainty of being able to change the dynamic. We have to send a message to the fans that they have to trust us, that they have to believe, that we are going to give everything to achieve this."
