Sergio González, unveiled as Cádiz manager

The Catalan made his first words as Cádiz head coach in the press room

At midday on Wednesday 12 January, Sergio González was unveiled as the new Cádiz coach. The press conference held in the stadium's press room was attended by the club's president, Manuel Vizcaíno: "I've come to show my support for him in order to achieve our goal. He is more than motivated and ready to save us."

Sporting director Jorge Cordero also appeared. "Sergio comes from 6 months on the sidelines, he was previously at Real Valladolid. He meets the requirements, technical and personal qualities to achieve the goal: survival. He arrives at Cádiz CF for the next 6 months with the possibility of prolonging his contract for a year in case of achieving survival."

Sergio González took the floor. "It is an immense joy to be with you and in Cádiz. I thank the president because he is the main protagonist of my being here. It's a difficult challenge but a beautiful one at the same time."

On the squad. "We have to reinforce the good things. The first thing we have told the players is that they are the protagonists. We are going to help them with some nuances and make them see that, if you can do it once, you can do it twice."

Idea. "We have to maintain our strength as a solid team and offer them our nuances without losing the essence of this team. We are clear about where we are and that we have to win games."

Arrival in Cádiz. "The word Cádiz itself is what has brought me here. Other colleagues have told me about what Cádiz is like, about Cádiz as an entity, about its fans. I'm lucky to be here and to be able to experience it first hand."

On Álvaro Cervera. "A lot of respect, Álvaro Cervera has done a tremendous job. We are not here to replace him, his legacy is there. We are here to write our book. I'm grateful for Álvaro's willingness to talk to me and that's to be praised because it means he's at the club's disposal."

Signings. "The sports management has a number of names. It's clear that we want to strengthen the team to try to make an impact."

Copa del Rey. "The Copa del Rey is a competition that we have always liked a lot. It can help us to see situations, nuances that we want to introduce in the team. We will try to win it to also look for the positive inertia for LaLigaSantander."
