Cádiz CF’s 2-2 LaLiga draw with Levante UD on Tuesday saw Salvi Sánchez return to action after recovering from COVID-19. Speaking post-match at the Estadio Ramón de Carranza, the winger offered his thoughts on the game and his comeback.

We’ve got another point on the board,” Salvi said. “We’ve avoided defeat and we’ve taken a step closer to our goal. It was a game that had a lot of chances for both sides in the opening stages.” He added: “We sent in a lot of good crosses from out wide. We didn’t manage to finish them off, but we’re heading in the right direction. I think we put in a good display. They’ve got a lot of attacking firepower and play some really good stuff. They’re a side who really hurt you on the break.”

Discussing his return as a second-half substitute, he said: “I’m really happy to have overcome this illness that has brought the whole world to a halt. I’m pleased to be back playing; I felt pretty good. I felt like I had enough gas in the tank. I just need to get more minutes under my belt and keep on working hard.”

Asked about his versatility as a player, Salvi explained: “Under [Cádiz head coach Álvaro] Cervera I’ve operated on the right, on the left, behind the strikers, up front… As long as I’m getting game time and can help the team, I’m happy.”

Cádiz now face a “very tough second half of the season”, he continued. “There’s so much at stake for everyone. Everyone wants to be among the top spots, everyone wants to stay in this division. We have to stay focused, take each game as it comes and look to get the three points every time we go out there.”

He concluded: “We have to stay calm when we win and when we lose. We’ve done well in the first half of the season and we’re raring to do well in the second half. We’ll need to avoid making mistakes and take our chances when we get them.”
