Left-footed winger Jairo Izquierdo spoke to the press this morning, Thursday. The Canary Islander, via videoconference from the press room, discussed how Cádiz CF would approach Sunday’s game against Real Sociedad. “I wanted to return to Cádiz. Because of the coach, the group, the city and its devotion to football, although it’s a shame the fans can’t be in the stadium. I give everything in training so that, when it’s time to compete, I can do the best possible,” he explained.
Solid squad to welcome the leaders: “Having people out, no matter who it is, is never nice. We’ve got strength in depth in the squad, there are good players in every position. If Real Sociedad are top of the table it’s because they are doing things well. We need to be capable of stopping them getting the ball into those areas where they are dangerous.”
His favoured position is left-wing, but he can play further back on the left-hand side too. “I’m really happy playing as a winger because it’s where I’ve played most, where I’ve played the most number of years. The person who knows about football and positions is the coach. There’s nobody better than him to know where to play me and get the best result.”
Stopping Real Sociedad: “We have a clear style of play. The first is not to make mistakes. We’ll try to stop them taking the ball into the danger areas. We’ll need to do things well in attack and have that bit of luck in front of goal. We’ll try and win the game, of course.”
Lack of fans at the Carranza: “I think you have to try to do things well without the fans there. It seems we’re feeling comfortable away from home. What we’re lacking is a way to feel comfortable at home. Let’s see if we have some luck and get the home win this weekend.”
