The spotlight was on Cádiz CF right back Iza Carcelén this morning as he spoke to the media via video conference at the training centre where he analysed both his personal situation and that of the team. “My injury came at a bad time as I felt good for the first five games of the new season, but it's also true that I didn't carry out a proper pre-season. On Sunday, I realised that I didn't have the match fitness required and my aim is to be as competitive as I was pre-injury”, he explained.

Competition with Carlos Akapo. “We’re a team. Akapo is a really competitive player who has previously played in the top flight. We’re all aware of his career, he’s a good player, and we’re both here to play. It's good for both of us knowing that the right back position at Cádiz is always well covered”.

Last two games against the top two sides in LaLiga. “Atleti and Real Sociedad are both strong teams and our feelings after the matches are what they are. In both contests, we were far from our best and failed to play our game; that’s what’s more important rather than focusing on the opponents. Real Sociedad were better and on the day and we failed to be the team we can be and they dominated the match. We're hoping to get back to our best this weekend”.

Elche away. “They are one of the opponents that we need to secure maximum points against as they are one of our direct rivals. We need to pick up the three points. Both teams have an objective of staying in the division and we're hoping to deliver a solid performance at the Martínez Valero and bring all three points back to Cádiz. Elche are a team that can play in a number of ways and can mix it up going forward and at the back. We'll look to make life as uncomfortable as possible which is vital in order to bag the points”.

In the top flight with the team you support. “I was unfortunate to be involved in two recent relegations and that leaves its mark on you as a player but was then lucky to get the call from Cádiz. Football can offer the rough and the smooth and that's why it's the great sport we love. I now have the opportunity to play in the top flight with Cádiz and hope to secure plenty of playing time going forward”.
