Speaking to the club’s in-house media team after Sunday’s goalless stalemate with Villarreal, Cádiz defender Fali expressed his satisfaction with the point earned against Unai Emery’s side. “I’m very happy,” he said. “Beating Real Madrid and drawing with Villarreal - that’s four really good points for us.”

Asked about Álvaro Negredo’s disallowed goal, he said: “It’s an offside decision that I think is really tight - I’ll need to have another look at it when I get home. But we stuck to our game plan well and all that was missing was a goal.”

Reacting to what is Cádiz’s fourth LaLiga clean sheet already this season, Fali commented: “It’s really difficult to avoid conceding in Primera División. From the forwards right back to Conan [Ledesma in goal], we put in a really good shift. The key to this Cádiz side is that we defend as a team, and resolutely so. That’s fundamental.”

Players have to work hard to earn their spot in Álvaro Cervera’s XI, he added. “It isn’t easy to get into this side,” he said. “There’s a lot of competition. When we win a place in the starting line-up, we try to make the most of that chance. It’s a real challenge to get into this team, and we train flat out every day with that goal in our sights.”
