Goalkeeper Jeremías Conan Ledesma was the man in front of the press at the Ciudad Deportiva on Thursday and discussed the team’s current situation. "We have the points cushion that provides us with a margin for error, as anything can happen in this final stretch of the competition.”
Bad run of form at the start of the second half of the season. “We always have these moments as teams, they are bumps in the road. We’ve played against the five best sides, those at the top of the table. In terms of football the difference is notable. We weren't in great shape and they were. We have to keep going as we have been from the game in Barcelona to now.”
Villarreal are very dangerous. "They have one of the four players fighting it out for the league's top scorer. They cover a lot of ground. It's going to require a huge physical effort from us. Let's hope we can rise to the occasion, which I'm sure we will.”
Analysis of the season. "I think it's too early to analyse the season as there are still some very important matches ahead that will determine our future. We’ve conceded a lot of goals in some games, and we’ve conceded several penalties. When you concede lots of goals your confidence drops, but that's part of being a keeper. We have to keep training hard and, if I had to give a brief analysis, I think it would be positive because we are six points clear of relegation, which is what matters.”
Happy at Cádiz. "I would like to stay at Cádiz. It is the club that has opened Europe’s doors for me and I would be happy to remain here for many years to come.”
Call-up for the Argentina Olympic squad. "I am delighted and pleased to join up with the national team. It is always something unique, the greatest recognition for a footballer. It’s a situation that makes you think you're on the right track. I take it as meaning I’m doing the right things and I’m very happy.”
No time to relax. "If you find yourself near the bottom [of the league], you know there is no margin for error, and you start to get nervous with every game feeling like a final. Every misplaced pass is replayed over and over in your mind. We're not in that situation, but we could be if we relax. There are eleven games left and that means plenty points still available, points that can completely change the situation.”
Defensive solidity. "Defending is not [only] the job of the defence, it starts with the forwards. The work begins up front so that by the time the ball gets close to our backline they’ve already been knocked out of their stride. We are one of the most compact teams in LaLiga and that makes it difficult for opponents to score. At the Camp Nou you could see our team's ability to be compact.”
The lack of fans. "We are so used to the spectacle and like the pressure of the crowd. We like the chants and even the insults. I come from Argentinian football and I'm used to it. I'm looking forward to feeling the warmth of the Cádiz fans. I’ve heard a lot about them and I'm looking forward to experiencing it for myself.”
