CERVERA: “WE’RE GOING TO CHANGE THIS”

The Cádiz coach was clearly worried as he offered his thoughts on the defeat to Athletic

Álvaro Cervera, coach of Cádiz CF, offered his thoughts in the media room at the end of the match against Athletic at the Estadio Ramón de Carranza. “It’s a really bad feeling. We’ve let in 15 goals in recent games. There were games like against Atlético where they scored four but we competed well. I don’t remember any games like today’s in all my time here.”

The Cádiz coach continued: “Today we went out with the goal of being strong in our own box and seeing what happened in the opposition’s box. After 10 minutes they had already had a number of chances. The difference for me was not how good Athletic are, I think that’s clear, for me that’s not where the game lay. It’s something that’s happening to us. I’m the main person responsible. I’ll keep working until I manage to change it, because this is not how it should be. The Cádiz I know can’t be like this.”

At the same time Cervera said: “When the team is like this you need to look at the coach because this last month is not normal.” He added: “I never talk about attitude because I think everyone goes out to give everything for themselves and for the team. Something is lacking as a group. The work we do during the week needs to be seen during the game. Everyone can look inside themselves afterwards. There’ll be something I’m not doing right. I pick them. I put them out there and what happened today can’t happen again because it can’t be like this.”

Cervera finished on an optimistic note: “I’m not pessimistic in the long term because this can’t go on like this. We’re in Primera, the teams are good, but the results have been bad. I’m optimistic in the long term because we’re going to change this.”
