CERVERA BEMOANS FIRST TWO GOALS

Discussing Cádiz’s defeat to Real Madrid, Álvaro Cervera declared: “There are things we can avoid doing”

Cádiz CF head coach Álvaro Cervera offered his thoughts on Wednesday’s 3-0 loss against Real Madrid CF. He began by discussing the penalty that saw Madrid take the lead, commenting: “For half an hour, we had the game right where we wanted it – we weren’t creating chances, but they weren’t, either.”

Around the 30-minute mark, Cervera continued, “the [first two Madrid] goals went in and when it gets to 2-0, it’s pretty much an impossible task for us.” He added: “I didn’t see the penalty. I’m told that he treads on him, unintentionally, but he treads on him. A penalty is such a decisive punishment and I think it should only be given if there’s a real goal threat, but the laws of the game say that if he treads on him, it’s a penalty.”

He went on: “It’s no surprise to be beaten by Madrid, but they didn’t create their first two goals – we did it for them.”

Asked about Cádiz’s upcoming clash with Real Valladolid, Cervera said: “We have several players out, such as Álex [Fernández] and Jens [Jonsson], so we’ll have to see who we field in the midfield in the next game.”

Returning to the defeat to Real Madrid, he said: “I want the other team to beat me; I don’t want us to give the points away. And against Madrid, they’ll beat you even if you give away only very little.” He concluded: “I’m aware that defeat is a possibility, but I think there are things we can avoid doing.”
