CÁDIZ CF MOURNS THE DEATH OF MARCELO

The Madrid-born winger wore the yellow shirt from 1961 to 1964

Cádiz CF is in mourning after the recent death of former player Marcelo García Robles, popularly and professionally known as Marcelo, who was 84.

The former player, born in Madrid, wore the yellow shirt for three seasons, from 1961 to 1964. Rest in peace.

The History Department of Cádiz CF has sent us the following profile, to better remember his career.

Marcelo García Robles was born in Madrid on 29 March 1936. He played as a right-winger for Cádiz FC and was an extremely skilful, quick forward.

He played for Cádiz CF for three seasons (196-61 to 1963-64), playing in the second division, and taking part in a total of 53 games in the league, scoring seven goals, seven games in the Copa and six games in the Copa de Andalucía.

He was part of one of the shortest attacking lines in the history of Cádiz CF, alongside Bolea, Almagro, Mosquera and Soriano, while his incredible skills delighted the Cádiz fans.

An injury he picked up in a friendly against Real Madrid prevented him from playing for much of the 1963-64 season.

Marcelo moved to Cádiz from CD Villarrobledo (60-61), having previously played for CD Femsa (52-53), C Atl. Palencia (53-56), C Atl. Zamora (56-57), SD Ponferradina (57-59), CD Don Benito (59-60). After Cádiz CF and the injury previously mentioned he retired from professional football.

Rest in peace Marcelo
