Cádiz CF B pulled off a smash-and-grab at the Estadio Iberoamericano de Bahía Sur by beating San Fernando 1-0 courtesy of a solitary strike from Jordi Tur. Los Amarillos were excellent in a dominant opening 30 minutes and later were able to control the game and roll up their sleeves when needed.
The reserve side enjoyed plenty of possession early on. Juan Manuel Pavón’s team took to the pitch at the Bahía Sur in an assured manner from the outset with Iván Chapela having the first shot of the game after two minutes, although it didn’t trouble the opposition keeper.
Cádiz were in control of the ball and when they were not in possession the visitors showed good anticipation to steal it back quickly. Chances followed as a result and Manuel Nieto tested Perales on 15 minutes with a shot inside the area that the San Fernando keeper turned behind for a corner. Chapela shaved the post from the delivery immediately afterwards.
During this period of Cádiz pressure, Tur found the net after a wonderful move from Mamady Diarrá on the left. The Frenchman got to the byline and lifted a cross to the far post where Tur was well-positioned to head home.
Taking the lead allowed Cádiz to settle and they could have had a second from a solo effort by Nieto, but his fierce left-footed strike whistled past the upright.
After the half-hour mark San Fernando found a foothold in the game. With the home fans urging their side on the hosts started to make inroads towards Juan Flere’s penalty area.
Cádiz’s Argentinean keeper was the hero of the end of the first half, denying San Fernando three clear scoring chances. First, a ferocious strike from Lolo, then an attempt from Sandro Toscano arriving in the area and finally a shot on the half-turn from Francis Ferrón.
After the break the match turned into a genuine chess contest as Los Amarillos continued to probe in attack without losing sight of the fact that they were ahead. The home side meanwhile kept pressing forward but remained cautious of the threat of conceding a second time on the break.
The two sides started to make changes and while these added some fresh legs to the contest it didn’t make an ounce of difference to the shape of the game up to that stage. San Fernando searched for the equaliser while Cádiz sat back and waited for the opportunity to strike the definitive blow.
Flere was called on again to rescue his side late on when he stopped a close range shot from Dopi before San Fernando almost earned a point when Omar Perdomo’s headed effort narrowly missed the inside of the post. The home side had another final chance when Hugo delivered a free kick from wide and Omar missed the target with everything in his favour.
