38 CLUBS TO TAKE PART IN ELALIGA SANTANDER 2020/21 SEASON

Four new clubs have joined an exciting adventure that started in the 2017/18 season with just 10 clubs taking part

eLaLiga Santander, the official EA SPORTS FIFA 21 competition organized by LaLiga and Electronic Arts is back with a bang for a new campaign. This season four new clubs have decided to join in this exciting adventure that is set to kick off on 12 January, 2021.

Last season a total of 34 clubs took part, double the number that were involved in 2018/19. Year after year, more and more teams from LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank have been welcomed into the eLaLiga Santander family.

LaLiga’s Director of Digital Strategy Alfredo Bermejo said ahead of the new tournament: “When we started out on this project four years ago with the participation of just 10 clubs, we laid out an ambitious objective that almost every club in LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank would eventually become a part of it. Today, that dream has become a reality with the 38 clubs that are taking part in the 2020/21 season. We are very grateful for the confidence that the clubs have shown in us over the course of these past four eventful and emotional seasons.”

Eight months of competition and €300,000 in prizes

This season, eLaLiga Santander teams will each be able to choose a player for the draft stage of the competition, which started on 26 October and will run until 29 November. The eLaLiga Santander tournament begins on 12 January, 2021, and will be played in two phases across five exciting and emotion-filled months.

In April, when the regular season reaches its halfway stage, eLaLiga Santander will take a break for the eLaLiga Santander Cup to be held. In this competition, the eight highest-ranked teams at that point will go head-to-head over the weekend of 3/4 April with €50,000 in prize money at stake.

Following the mid-season pause, the final round of regular fixtures will be held on 13/14 April when the 16 teams qualifying for the Grand Final will be decided. From there, in an unprecedented spectacle for the competition, only one team will emerge victorious. Furthermore, this season club representatives (proplayers) will compete for a total of €300,000 in shared prizes.
