On their return to Segunda División B action following last weekend’s break, Cádiz CF B got back to winning ways on Sunday with a convincing victory over CD Marino, earning the points thanks to a dominant second-half display that saw Iván Chapela, Saturday Erimuya and Kensly Vázquez all find the net for Juan Manuel Pavón’s side.

The match was significantly impacted by the strong winds at El Rosal, which led to regular errors in the two sides’ build-up play as both remained committed to attractive, passing football. At times, however, the conditions made this impossible.

In the first half, the chief moments of attacking danger created by Cádiz B came on the 15-minute and half-hour mark. The first saw the hosts appeal in vain for a penalty for a tug on Juan Manuel Boselli, before the same man was then also involved in the second, his threatening free-kick forcing a crucial defensive clearance.

Meanwhile, CD Marino put together a spell of particularly incisive play just before the break, enjoying a great double chance that home goalkeeper Juan Flere thwarted to keep the scores goalless.

After half time, it was a different game. Cádiz B came out with the bit firmly between their teeth and soon put themselves in the driving seat for the win, Chapela giving Pavón’s side the lead with an angled, left-footed drive from the edge of the box.

With CD Marino left reeling by the blow of going behind, Los Cadistas pressed for a second and soon got one, Saturday connecting with a corner to score from close range. There was no let-up to the onslaught after that, either: moments later, Chapela won a penalty that he stepped up to take himself. However, he sent his spot-kick straight down the middle and keeper Ángel Galván saved the effort to keep the visitors in the match.

Not disheartened by the penalty miss, though, Cádiz B continued to search for a third – and it came with 10 minutes remaining, courtesy of recently-introduced substitute Kensly. The youth product, who has been at the club since the under-13s, celebrated with unbridled joy.

Having not given up the fight at any point of the matchday-five clash, CD Marino were rewarded for their spirited performance when they grabbed a consolation right at the death, through Javi Saavedra.
