Cádiz CF finally recorded their first home win of the season with a historic victory over FC Barcelona at the Estadio Ramón de Carranza, winning 2-1. The match was an extremely competitive affair with the home side winning the contest by staying true to their brand of football.
Barcelona dominate possession at the start
Cádiz CF started the game as expected, letting their opponents have the ball as Barcelona dominated possession. Both sides appeared content with that arrangement as it suited both team's manner of playing the game. Despite their domination through long spells in possession, the visitors failed to make any in-roads on the CCF goal.
Cádiz took full advantage of their only corner of the first half!
Cádiz waited patiently to make inroads on the Barcelona goal marshalled by Ter Stegen and opened the scoring from their only corner kick of the first half. Álex floated the ball into the box and a goal-bound header from Lenglet forced Ter Stegen to stop the ball as best he could, only for Álvaro Giménez to pounce and steer the ball into the net.
Barcelona created chances to draw level
After the goal, Barcelona increased the pressure on Ledesma's goal with the Argentine goalkeeper instrumental in making a series of important interventions as Barça pushed for an equaliser.
Coutinho finished off a move firing over after a fine assist from Dest and soon afterwards Ledesma saved well from an effort from Braithwaite. The Danish striker broke free from the right hand side and from an acute angle drilled a fierce shot which was deflected wide by the Argentine stopper's feet. Leo Messi was the next Barcelona player to test Ledesma as the keeper fisted away a direct free-kick taken by the Barcelona captain.
Forced substitute on the half hour mark
Once again, the injury curse that has blighted Álvaro Cervera's side struck again with Alcalá replacing the injured Marcos Mauro.
Koeman looks to the bench at the start of the second half
The Dutch coach decided to look to his bench with the introduction of Pedri and Dembelé replacing Coutinho and Mingueza at the interval.
Jairo launches a counter with no end result… as Jordi Alba draws the game level
Cádiz had a chance to increase the lead with a spectacular break from Jairo on the right hand flank but the Canary Islander just lacked the finishing touch to seal the move. In the next passage of play, it was the visitors' turn to counter-attack as Messi fed Jordi Alba with the ball ending up in the net after the Barça defender's cross-shot deflected off Alcalá and past Ledesma.
Negredo makes an immediate impact after coming on
Álvaro Cervera shuffled his pack and was fortunate with the decision to bring on Álvaro Negredo. The Vallecas native scored with his first touch after De Jong miscontrolled a defensive pass and the ball ricocheted off Negredo as Ter Stegen attempted to clear and the striker rolled the ball into an empty net.
Backs to the wall for Cádiz for the remainder of the game
Despite being ahead again, there was still over 25 minutes remaining on the clock and Cádiz were forced on the back foot as Barcelona launched wave upon wave of attacks with the patience levels running out among the Catalan side as their play got more disjointed as the clock ticked down.
Ledesma, the hero of the night with key saves
The Argentine keeper was instrumental in stopping the efforts that came his way in the final stages of the match as the goalkeeper and his defensive line were pivotal in ensuring that the scoreline remained the same as Cádiz hung on to secure another famous victory.
