A competitive game right from the off under rainy English skies. Burnley had the better of the chances early on, with Tarkowski having the option to put home side after three minutes, but he put his header wide from a decent corner from Brownhill. Minutes after, Cádiz responded with a fine counter-attack that the Burnley defence managed to deal with.

With neither team clearly on top, the sides exchanged counters. Burnley had a clear chance with the clock coming up on 25 minutes. A counter and shot from inside the box, with Conan Ledesma making two consecutive saves. That situation then led to a number of efforts on the Argentinean’s goal, which the keeper and the defence kept out.

Two minutes before the end of the first half, Martín Calderón chased down a ball that came back out from a cross and fired the ball into the goal defended by Nick Pope. A fine goal indeed to put Cádiz in front at Turf Moor Stadium. With the scoreboard showing 0-1 the teams headed off to the dressing room.

Right at the start of the second half, Álvaro Cervera’s team scored again. A cross from the left from Iza Carcelén was headed magnificently by Álex Fernández, who sent the ball across to give Pope no chance and score Cádiz’s second. Just minutes later, Conan made a flying save to avoid Burnley scoring from a free-kick.

In the final minutes Burnley threw the kitchen sink at the Cádiz defence to get something, but the visitors defended with everything they had to ensure a clean sheet and an end to the preseason with a win on English soil.
