As they prepare for the 2021/22 LaLiga Santander season, Cádiz got another run-out under their belts in a friendly with Las Palmas in Marbella on Tuesday. It was a clash that saw the Canary Islanders come out on top thanks to two first-half goals, but Cádiz refused to throw in the towel at any point and created chances to score.

After eight minutes, a fast-paced attack by Las Palmas down the left wing ended up with a powerful shot by Pejiño into the Cádiz net. Álvaro Cervera’s men sought to gain control of the game, but Las Palmas were invigorated by their opening goal and didn’t give Cádiz a moment’s peace in possession, meaning Los Amarillos struggled to find openings.

Shortly before the half-hour mark, Las Palmas’ Maikel Mesa fired home from the edge of the Cádiz box, with goalkeeper David Gil helpless to stop the shot despite throwing himself at it. Having moved into a 2-0 lead, Pepe Mel’s side looked confident and continued to make it difficult for Cádiz to mount dangerous attacking moves.

At the break, Cádiz made a number of substitutions, as is customary in pre-season fixtures, as Cervera looked to share out game time among his players. In the second 45, Cádiz enjoyed more chances than their opponents. Filip Malbasic and Álvaro Negredo had opportunities to score, but were denied by the Las Palmas goalkeeper.
