0-1 | VALERIA AND ANA PRIAN BRING HOME THREE POINTS FROM ALMERIA

A goal from Valeria and a great last gasp save from Prian gave three valuable points to the Cadiz CF women's team.

It was a great victory over the UD Almeria women’s team for Emilio Soler's players. In a match that was hard fought from the first minute, Las Amarillas were able to take the game as the final minutes slipped away. A goal by Valeria and a great save by Ana Prian clinched three valuable points in Almeria, which meant they remained near the top of the table.

With neither side wanting to make it easy for their opponent, it was clear early in the first half that this was going to be a competitive encounter. With a desire to keep a clean sheet and hit on the counter, both Cádiz and Almeria invited each other on, with the red and whites having more of the ball. The imperial Santana led a defence that kept Almeria's attack at bay during the first half.

Apart from the occasional ball into space that Prian cut out, the hosts were unable to really threaten the goal of the girl from Chiclana. Defender Carmen Santana, however, was close to scoring near the end of the first half, when she crashed a header from a corner off the woodwork. It was, without doubt, the best chance of the first period.

With both sides aware of the need to pick up three points, they decided to push forward a little more targeting victory. It was the visitors who were sharpest in creating opportunities in and around Andrea, the Almeria goalkeeper, while the red-whites were defied by a strong yellow defence.

With five minutes left in the game, a free-kick taken by Mona from the centre of the pitch found Valeria in the opposition’s area, and she finished it off skilfully to make it 0-1. Nevertheless, in added time, a last gasp equaliser from Almeria was prevented by the gloves of Ana Prian. This was a massive win to continue the fight at the top of the table.
