0-1 | ALARCÓN GIVES THE PASS IN STOPPAGE TIME

A hard-fought match against Fuenlabrada ended in a last-time victory

This is the Copa del Rey. Suffering, work, struggle, pain and reward. Cádiz had it all in Fuenlabrada in the face of adversity, including the final prize when the match seemed doomed to extra time. But the script took a long time to play out until the 0-1 scoreline that secured a place in the last 16.

The absentees conditioned both the call-up and Álvaro Cervera starting eleven. In the absence of players in midfield and defence, he opted to field a line of three centre-backs with Parra, Cala and Chust, with two wingers: Rubén Sobrino and Arzamendia. Up front, Álex, Jønsson and Bastida were a new back three supporting the forward line of Osmajic and Andone.

Cádiz CF had possession of the game and the ball at the start, but with timid approaches from Andone. The striker headed over the bar from Álex's corner and shot wide after receiving from Osmajic inside the area. At the end of the half-hour mark, a shot from the edge of the area also went high.

The home side hardly had any chances in David Gil's area, who saved the first approach with a shot from the edge of the box. Cádiz could have scored in the 34th minute but the defence deflected Andone's Álex shot behind for a corner, and then Chust headed wide from a corner.

The clearest chance was to have a local flavour. In the 41st minute, Pol Valentín's cross hit the crossbar. Without taking a second off the clock, Gil Manzano sent an evenly matched game into the break.

With one change for Fuenlabrada, Konate for Cristóbal, the game resumed. Pellicer's men seemed more intent on finding the opposition goal. Anderson twice came close to scoring. So did Cala, but his header from a corner went wide. Chapela and Alarcón came on for Jønsson and Osmajic, with half an hour left. The player from Chiclana had a chance just after with a cross-shot that went narrowly wide without finding the target.

David Gil was to come into action. The goalkeeper from Madrid had to come up with two great saves, first from a corner kick and shortly afterwards with a shot from Pedro León. The goal was to keep a clean sheet.

The game continued with tiredness until three minutes of stoppage time. Everything seemed condemned to extra time, until Negredo crossed for Alarcón to drill a shot from the edge of the box into Morro's net. Goal, final, pass and joy. Cádiz are still in the Copa del Rey.
