MARCOS MAURO: IT WAS A SEASON ALL ABOUT DESIRE

Argentinian centre-back Marcos Mauro spoke to the club's media team before going on holiday and assessed the season.

Cádiz’s Argentinian centre-back Marcos Mauro gave his assessment of the past season in conversation with the club's media team before he headed off on holiday.

Season review

“It has been a really good season and one that culminated in us staying up,” Mauro said with a clear tone of satisfaction. “It was a campaign where our hard work was rewarded.”

The team's high and low points

“Early on [in the season] we had a very good run, beating strong teams along the way, and that gave us a boost in terms of both confidence and points. We then finished the season well to add to that.”

“The trickiest period was at the beginning of the second half of the season when we had a string of defeats. That was a bit difficult but it also helped make us more united and work even harder.”

Personal assessment

"I'm following the team’s approach. It has been a season of adaptation in what is one of the best leagues in the world; everyone needed to adapt. It was incredible to keep our place in the top flight.”

Aspirations for next season

“The most important thing is to consolidate our place and for that we must continue with our work plan without losing sight of where we come from and the club that we are. From this, we will work as hard as we did this past year to stay up once again.”

A key moment during the season

“The win against Valencia as it gave us peace of mind and got rid of a potential problem. Had we not won that day it would have hurt a lot and I particularly remember the goal I scored.”

One word to define the season

“I’d say ‘desire’ as it was that will to succeed that ensured we achieved our goal.”
