ESPINO: “WE’VE GOT TO GIVE OUR ALL EVERY TIME WE CROSS THAT WHITE LINE”

Ahead of Cádiz CF’s Copa tie against Girona FC, the defender spoke to reporters from the club’s training ground

Left-back Pacha Espino spoke to the media via video link from Cádiz CF’s training ground on Wednesday, ahead of this weekend’s Copa del Rey clash with Girona FC. “There’s tiredness, but the things we do in training are there to help us with that – so we always go out there ready to play out of our skins,” he said. “We have the whole week to prepare for the Copa and then we’ll focus back in on LaLiga. We have to keep on working hard.”

No let-up in intensity: “We’ve got to give our all every time we cross that white line: 100%. We have to keep on showing the attitude we’ve been showing and stay focused at all times.”

Competition at left-back: “I feel in good nick physically. We have a terrific left-back in the shape of Marc Baró, who has done really well in the Copa and for Cádiz B, so there’s competition in the position.”

Concentration in every game: “The points we have on the board don’t give us any margin for error. We can’t afford any slip-ups. If we do slip up, let’s make sure it happens after we’ve reached that 40-point mark.”

Second half of the league season: “The second half of the campaign is always tougher. That was the case in Segunda División too; we found it a challenge. So we’re going to have to be on our mettle. Every other team is going to be putting the pressure on in the second half of the season and we’ll need to dig in more than ever.”

Pleased with his and Cádiz’s displays: “I’m happy with the way things are going for the team, and with my own performances. As far as playing for the [Uruguay] national team goes, I can only keep on hoping and working hard to achieve that goal.”
