Cádiz CF paid a warm, heart-felt official visit to veteran player Juan José Soriano - known as ‘El Chiclanero’ - to pay tribute to the left-back and continue raising awareness of the history of the club. The Cádiz delegation, led by club president Manuel Vizcaíno, was welcomed into the home of the footballer in Chiclana de la Frontera last Wednesday.
Juan José Soriano, now 76, wore the Cádiz shirt on more than 230 occasions over eight season in which he was a fixture at left-back (1967-1975).
Manuel Vizcaíno was accompanied by José Mata, Cádiz vice-president; Paco Baena, a teammate of Soriano in his time as a player; and Juan Antonio Lebrero, from the History department of Cádiz.
During the visit they shared stories and tales of crucial moments experienced, particularly by Soriano and Baena, who played together over a number of seasons. Manuel Vizcaíno presented Soriano with a specially printed shirt for the occasion while José Mata gave him a memory stick containing something unique: a video of a game played between Sevilla FC and Cádiz CF in 1972 in which Soriano played, and that he can now watch. The video is priceless, because this was well before television coverage of games in Spain; the footage was taken by an individual who was at the game.
