0-2 | COPA VICTORY IN A SENRA

Cádiz CF chalked up a comfortable victory against a combative Ribadumia side with Garrido and Malbasic scoring either side of half time.

Cádiz CF will be in Friday’s draw for the second round of the Copa del Rey after defeating CD Ribadumia 0-2 in a tie held at the A Senra stadium. Jon Ander Garrido and Filip Malbasic scored either side of the break to seal victory.
Cádiz prevailed in a game in which they dominated for long periods from kick-off to the final whistle. Álvaro Cervera made rotations in respect to his Liga selections and the majority of the starting XI were players who have not featured as regularly in the domestic top-flight competition.
The visiting side imposed themselves early in the tie and from the 15-minute mark started to rack up incursions towards the opposition goal guarded by Ribadumia keeper Roberto Pazos. Cádiz’s pressure led to several chances, the most dangerous falling to Malbasic, Pombo and Anthony Lozano.
The opening goal arrived just after the half hour courtesy of the captain on the night, Garrido. The Basque midfielder drove into the area from deep and met a hanging Lozano cross to head home.
After the break Cádiz were handed a golden opportunity to extend their advantage when the home side conceded a penalty. Malbasic stepped up to take but Pazos guessed correctly and stopped the effort at full stretch.
The home side enjoyed their most profitable spell in attack after the penalty save and had their best opportunity when Cheri lashed a shot narrowly over the bar.
Cádiz reacted immediately with another attack and Malbasic this time found the target after picking up the ball in the area and firing low under the legs of Pazos.
Ribadumia had given a good account of themselves and took the game to the visitors in the final stages when Charles was presented with two decent chances. The first saw the striker’s effort miss the far post and the second drew a comfortable low save from David Gil.
Cádiz wrested back the initiative with the clock ticking down and laid siege to the Ribadumia area with Jairo, Salvi and Pedro Alcalá all having opportunities to add a third before the final whistle.
